How do you prevent carjacking & RoadSide Attacks


  •  Plan ahead. Be prepared
  •  Know your route. Use well-lighted and well-traveled roads
  •  Have an alternate route in mind in case of problems
  •  Let some one know the route you will take and when you plan to arrive
  •  Do not travel alone if at all possible
  •  Drive to a safe public place and dial 911 if you think someone is following you
  •  Drive away if you see suspicious people walking towards you
  •  Do not leave your car unlocked even when running brief errands and always take
  • your keys with you
  •  Avoid using ATMs at night especially if you see people loitering nearby
  •  Do not allow your car to run out of fuel
  •  Do not pick up hitch hikers
  •  If you have a flat tyre in a dark or dangerous location, drive to the nearest service
  • station or public place

Be alert to potential dangers

  • Be alert to any activity near your car
  • Be suspicious of people approaching your car asking for directions or assistance
  • Be suspicious to people loitering in your parking area

You will be safer if you avoid certain situations

  • Do not drive without first locking your doors and closing your windows
  • Never leave keys in the ignition or the car running for any reason
  • Avoid parking in secluded, poorly lighted areas especially at night
  • Do not walk to your car alone. Remember that both men and women are vulnerable
  • to car jacking.
